Tehran – Iran’s Minister of Agriculture has warned that foreign aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran has exacerbated the global food security crisis, driving up energy prices and creating worldwide shortages of essential chemical fertilizers.

 

Speaking on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Kyrgyzstan about the consequences of the recent imposed war on the country, Gholamreza Nouri explained that the aggression has not only disrupted domestic agricultural production but also sent shockwaves through international supply chains.

 

According to the minister, the conflict has led to a significant decline in the output of chemical fertilizers, a key input for modern farming, while simultaneously pushing energy prices to new highs.

 

"As a direct result of this aggression, we are witnessing a global fertilizer deficit, soaring energy costs, and a deepening crisis in food security across the world," the minister stated.

 

He emphasized that the disruption extends far beyond Iran’s borders, affecting agricultural productivity in numerous countries that rely on stable fertilizer and energy markets. “The combination of higher production costs and limited supply, he added, threatens to worsen hunger and malnutrition in vulnerable regions.”
